St Helen's

challenge
St Helen's School in Northwood, a prestigious independent day school, required a robust and fully compliant water hygiene and legionella prevention programme across its extensive facilities, including the main school buildings and sports centre. The challenge involved delivering a seamless, integrated service to meet HSE ACoP L8, HSG274, and COSHH regulations, while working collaboratively with onsite staff to ensure cost-efficiency and continuity. The school also needed updated Legionella Risk Assessments (LRA) for multiple buildings and reliable monthly microbiological pool sampling, aligned with PWTAG standards. The scope demanded a solution that covered technical compliance, consistent reporting, and clear, actionable recommendations - all while minimising disruption to the school's daily operations.
solution
Our water hygiene team implemented a tailored programme, including monthly temperature monitoring, quarterly Legionella sampling, annual tank inspections and cleaning, all recorded in a detailed site logbook. We partnered with the school's maintenance team to share routine responsibilities, supporting them with training and system knowledge. Alongside this, we conducted full LRAs with update schematics and a prioritised remedial action plan. We introduced monthly pool sampling with visual plant inspections to flag issues early. Our coordinated approach ensured full compliance, transparency, and peace of mind for the school, all delivered at a competitive fixed annual cost. This partnership reinforces Broadwater's commitment to safeguarding health and operational excellence in educational environments.
We were seeking specialist oversight and input from a company that was responsive, pro-active and capable of supplying consistent quality. The engineers who attend site are without exception, knowledgeable, capable and professional. The office staff are organised, efficient and responsive. Overall, I cannot recommend Broadwater enough.
